CVT TransmissionsCVT transmissions (belt driven) are becoming common place due to the better fuel economy they provide. However because of manufacture licensing, the CVT belt is an expensive item if it fails and the demands placed on the belt are very high. People new to driving a CVT transmission are often confused over its operation. The best way to describe it is like a slipping clutch in a manual car i.e. the revs rise and the road speed catches up. We recommend more frequent fluid changes to help extend the life of these transmissions and help prevent belt breakage. There is now a choice of proven aftermarket CVT fluids available and we can carry out servicing often at a similar price to a standard type automatic. CVT transmissions are not ideally suited to high load conditions such as towing or competitive use. For these purposes we would recommend a more traditional transmission as they can withstand heavy loads with more durability and longevity. At The Gearbox Factory we have been servicing, repairing and rebuilding CVT transmissions from their first arrival on the New Zealand motoring scene. Our team has extensive experience with both their symptoms and failures, and we can accommodate any CVT related issue - contact us to find out more. |
